Spring Update

I was recently asked how to adapt mockup frames to portrait or landscape formats. I hope the following guide proves helpful.

✨ How to Adapt a Frame Mockup to Fit Any Image Format

  • Open your frame mockup file in Adobe Photoshop

  • Locate the base layer (Interior) and the clipping layer above it

  • Place your artwork onto the clipping layer

  • Use Transform (Cmd/Ctrl + T) to scale your image as close to the frame as possible

🖼️ If the image doesn’t fit the frame (portrait, landscape, or other ratios):

  • Use ruler guides to align the frame with the edges of your image

  • Decide where you want the frame to sit in relation to your artwork

  • Turn off the top layers (artwork and clipping layer)

  • Select a generous area around the part of the frame you want to adjust

  • Use the Move Tool + arrow keys to gently shift the frame outward or inward

  • Align the frame so your image sits naturally within it

🧩 Fixing gaps and imperfections:

  • Select any gaps created during adjustment

  • Go to Generative Fill → click Generate (no prompt needed)

  • Choose the most natural result from the variations provided

  • Repeat this process for any distorted or uneven areas

  • Optionally, use the Remove Tool for smaller corrections

🎨 Final adjustments:

  • Turn your top layers back on

  • Fine-tune your artwork using Transform

  • Clip your artwork to the frame layer

  • Set the artwork layer to Multiply

  • If the image appears too dark:

    • Enable the middle layer

    • Use Levels (Cmd/Ctrl + L) to gently lift highlights

🔁 Finishing notes:

  • Repeat this process as needed for different formats

  • Always consider where the final frame will sit within your composition

  • Use Generative Fill multiple times if needed to refine the result

I’m delighted to share that the first Layered Visions challenge was a wonderful success, with 32 selected submissions. The quality of the work is exceptional—do take a moment to visit the gallery by clicking the banner below. This is Layered Visions’ own portfolio website, which makes the experience all the more special.

The next challenge for May, Echoes of Time, is now underway, and submissions are already coming in. It’s lovely to see artists engaging with this rich and thought-provoking theme, and I’m excited to watch the gallery evolve. If you’re interested in joining the current challenge, please visit by clicking on the banner below.

The House of Lotus

I have a deep appreciation for vintage Vogue covers, and this series, The House of Lotus, was inspired by their elegance.

This process has been especially meaningful, as it feels like I’ve reconnected with my muse.

I’m also excited that Pink Lotus will be developed into a tutorial for KAIZEN artists by Sebastian Michaels. In this, he explores in greater detail how I work with black etchings alongside colour and texture clippings to build depth and layered interest, particularly within backgrounds, or what I often refer to as “scene fillers.”

I also use subtle, dreamy tree overlays set to Multiply to create a distant, atmospheric softness, and techniques like reworking the same flamingo element using Puppet Warp to introduce variation and movement.

These are small techniques, but ones I return to often and find invaluable within my compositions.
